Hello, and welcome back to another episode where we’re reading books! (We seem to do that every week!)
Here’s a handy list of the books we talked about on this episode:
- Dune by Frank Herbert
- Chase the Fun by Annie F. Downs.
- Profit First by Mike Michalowicz
- Pre-Suasion by Robert Cialdini
- The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
- Fostered by Tori Hope Petersen
- Dead Man’s Folly by Agatha Christie
Our book recap this week is Atlas of the Heart by Brene Brown.
Dune – Frank Herbert
Andrew was reading this book basically nonstop this week, and got it almost finished before we recorded! He’s been really enjoying it! If you like Sci-Fi and haven’t read this book yet, it comes highly recommended from Andrew! 😀
Chase the Fun – Annie F. Downs
This is a devotional-style book where you read a little bit each day exploring the topic of fun & how to incorporate more of it into your life as an adult.
So far it’s been a pretty quick and mostly light read, although some of the parts on battling perfectionism and believing I’ll be loved even if I fail have hit pretty close to home.
Profit First – Mike Michalowicz
This book’s about structuring your business to be profitable. They talk a lot about “eradicating entrepreneurial poverty.”
The basic premise so far is this: instead of being growth-focused, be profit-focused and the growth will come naturally.
Pre-Suasion – Robert Cialdini
This book is really interesting because it takes a psychologically-based look at how people make decisions to, for example, buy something.
I (Julianne) feel like it’s definitely a classic in the marketing world, and it’s been a fascinating read so far. However, I don’t have much to say about it because I’ve barely started it!
The Tipping Point – Malcolm Gladwell
So far, this book’s about – how to start an epidemic. He says that there are basically 3 kinds of people – connectors, mavens, and salesmen. Who you are determines how you influence others.
Case in point: the fact that Paul Revere was both a connector and a maven made his midnight ride much more effective than a similar one that someone else in Boston took.
Fostered – Tori Hope Petersen
This book is easy to read, which means that the emotional heaviness of what I’m reading kinda sneaks up on me. But even though it’s hard, I’m really enjoying it and I’m *hoping* (and truly thinking) that things are about to get more hopeful.
I previously read this and shared more thoughts on that episode!
Dead Man’s Folly – Agatha Christie
We listened to this one together! It’s very good so far (but that’s not really a surprise- we love Agatha Christie).
Book Recap – Atlas of the Heart by Brene Brown
I (Julianne) read this a few months ago, and it’s been really helpful to give me language for what I’m feeling. Here’s the slideshow I presented during this episode.
You can see me presenting it on our Youtube Channel. 🙂
That’s it for this week! Thanks for reading with us!
