Episode 2: A Minute to Finish

Welcome to Episode 2 of That Book Podcast!

Let’s get to the books. Here’s what we read this past week:

Book recap of the week: Finish by Jon Acuff

I Will Teach You to be Rich – Ramit Sethi

I (Julianne) am almost done with I Will Teach You to be Rich (I’ve finished the “six-week plan” part of the book and I’m on the last couple of chapters which have like, “What to do now” or “How to be able to afford X.”)

It’s been really enjoyable and I’m glad I read it!

We bought the journal that goes along with it and have been working through it together.  So far it’s been really fun, but I’m actually looking forward to some of the later sections more than the one we’re currently using- it’s about dreaming up your rich life, and I’m much more excited to dig into money psychology and things like that. I don’t really need a lot of help dreaming, usually. 😂

You can hear more about this book in these episodes: Think You Have Atomic Habits? Think Again & upcoming episodes. 🙂

The Heist – Daniel Silva

This book (so far) in one sentence: A European spy is working to uncover an art-related crime (who will presumably put on a heist to solve it)

The story has been great so far. Enough intrigue to be very interesting but not so much that you lose track of what’s going on.

An Atlas of Extinct Countries – Gideon Defoe

Read a few more countries in this- unless I (Julianne) take it with me on our upcoming vacation, I think I’ll be working through it kinda slowly, trying to savor it. It’s been a fun weekend read, for sure!

But… maybe I’ll take it with me on vacation! We’ll see!

A Minute to Think – Juliet Funt

This book’s about taking intentional spaces in your day to think to increase life satisfaction and reduce stress and burnout

I (Andrew) would describe this as a very healing book. It helps me not feel the need to always be spinning my wheels and being productive, and shows me that purposeful breaks are actually better for my quality of work and life satisfaction.

Holier Than Thou – Jackie Hill Perry

This book is one of those rare books that isn’t the Bible, but makes you feel closer to God when you read it anyway. It’s a gem and I’m really enjoying reading through it! (This is Julianne btw – still reading, same as last week! lol)

Grit – Angela Duckworth

This book is about finding out how to use passion and perseverance to stick with things and ultimately be very successful.

Duckworth talks about how Grit is one of the biggest predictors of success- and how to cultivate it in your life! Very excited to read this, especially after viewing her TED talk.

The Lazy Genius Way – Kendra Adachi

What book’s about – focusing on the things that actually matter to live well

Another book about not needing to be a superhuman productivity machine (guess that’s my theme this week)

Another healing book where she talks about the struggles she’s been through moving from trying to do everything perfectly to living life in a way that brings joy
